About the Pembroke Welsh Corgi
The Pembroke Welsh Corgi, known for its low-set body, large erect ears, and stubby tail, has a fascinating history. Ancestors of this herding breed date back to at least the 10th century, with uncertain origins—possibly Swedish Vallhunds brought by Vikings or ancestors of present-day Schipperkes and Pomeranians. Legends say they were “enchanted” dogs used by Welsh fairies and elves. Despite their small size, Pembrokes excel as world-class herders and loyal family pets. They’re intelligent, enthusiastic workers, often competing in agility, herding, and other dog sports. Learn more
